I just lost respect for these designers...

Its quite sad too because they were on my "I hope you never fall into obscurity because you have a timeless appeal and business savvy that I appreciate " list. I appreciate a designer not only for their clothing but the message they deliver to their consumers and observers. The second a designer's head has gotten to be for their proverbial britches that they aren't keeping the finger on the pulse of the fashion business outside of their own house I have a problem. You take a jab at my First Lady then....I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM:

ARTICLE: Oscar de la Renta Slams Michelle Obama's Buckingham Outfit As Major Designers Feel Ignored

Oscar...you were my Dominican refuse, the only major designer from our island...but what a pompous jerk you are (or have become). You must really think all dignitaries, A-listers, and other's in the spotlight must somehow justify their position by wearing YOUR clothing or designer YOU believe are in "fashion". You must have dreamed up your own little Ivy League of designers because last time I checked Thakoon, Isabela Toledo, Jason Wu, Micheal Kors, etc were all respected, sometimes lesser known, designers (and quite frankly J. Crew is pretty much an "affordable" Micheal Kors anyway). SO how is she NOT helping the "struggling" fashion industry again????? OHHHH I get it.....she's not helping the overpriced(including bridge lines), over-glorified, over entitled designers like yourself?? Ok gottcha! Good luck with that. A smarter businessman would have shut up and designed a nice sweater and sent it to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave instead of sucking on sour grapes.

Donna....you "hope and believe its a moment"?? I really would like to hear what you meant by this because it makes you sound just as detached as Oscar. You made and continue to make your fortune off of the premise that you design for the modern working woman. Those few words made me realize how you may have lost sight of your own vision. What do you think Michelle is? Why do you think she is so popular? She is right now the most visible, most powerful, most genuine, and most open MODERN WORKING WOMAN (and mom) in America!!! If you think she's going through a phase, you need to wake up! This is who the rest of us MWW want to emulate....maybe you've been hanging with to many celebrities to realize that (I've read your shareholder reports too....seems like you've been out of touch for a while hun)

Vera, I'm not so mad at you. Yes, I do believe all designers have contributions to make and I applaud you for recognizing the young and blossoming designers. But at this point, you are a household name, in fact its synonymous with fabulous weddings, your bridge line is doing well at Khol's...you've made it sweetheart. The biggest contribution to be made by Michelle and Vera collaboration is to your pocket. If we want to talk about contributions to the fashion industry by stimulating new interest in the art and the sheer joy of it all....lets leave it to those good ole youngins you were talking about, huh. Whaddya say???

Side note: As president of CFDA , Diane Von Furstenberg wouldn't be caught saying any of this tomfoolery. Hence, she will remain at the top of that long winded list I mentioned earlier :-) I heart you DVF!!

Yeah, that's too bad those comments were made. They pretty much guaranteed for themselves that they won't ever be dressing Michelle!

I'm impressed. I couldn't understand a word Donna was saying.

I like Michelle because she represents herself not a league of designers. I applaud your commentary on these designers. Shame on them! Indeed! It isn't all about you!

Thanks for the heads up.

One of the reasons I find Oscar's comments so 'sour grapes' is that you KNOW that if he got hold of Michelle, he'd start complaining to her about her hips or her thighs, telling her to lose weight or do something else to herself so that she'd be more like HE wants. She's not interested in what he's selling. Get over it, Oscar. Donna Karen's problem is that her 'moment' was about 20 years ago. Her thing always was and is that she's designing for 'women like her' - Michelle is not a 'chocolate brown knit that you can wrap around yourself twice' person. Get over it, Donna - the demographic has moved on.
And Michelle can wear anything she damn well pleases in my book. She looks great in everything.

This whole "controversy" and the tone of the article in WWD is silly and sad. Silly because come on by wearing JCrew and using younger upcoming designers she is helping the fashion industry. As the younger designers become more prominent - they will need more space, more staff and more stores to sell their wares to. That is definitely stimulating the economy and encouraging job growth.

Personally I think Oscar and Donna should get over themselves. Her style is not their style and if they want to dress her they will have to acquiesce to her wishes...something I don't think they want to do.

Two very well-off designers who have spent the last few decades kowtowing to celebrities are now annoyed that they missed the mark...sour grapes is putting it mildly!

Thanks for your comments you said it perfectly The problem is designers like Oscar and Donna don't realize times have changed Michelle has the option to branch out. Another thing do they not realize the dress codes has changed GREATLY from when they were top dogs for example I heard some tie manufactures have went out of buisness because ties are not required in a lot of work places now
